The use of SAN versus NAS storage connectivity with cloud deployments may seem like an old topic; however, with the ever increasing number of customers who are deploying multiple hypervisors I believe this conversation deserves to be revisited. For those interested in this sometimes religious debate I have shared my perspective in this SearchStorage article.

Virtualization Changes Everything Free Copies and Book Signings at Cisco Live
A year ago Mike Slisinger and I wanted to expand upon the impact and influence server virtualization and cloud computing were having on storage and it’s support of the evolution from silo models to dynamic, flexible hosting environments. For these reasons we authored, ‘Virtualization Changes Everything: Storage Strategies for VMware vSphere & Cloud Computing’ Storage is a dynamic, evolving aspect of virtualization and cloud computing technology – an aspect that is all-too-often overlooked: but without …
Predictions for 2012 – Better Late than Never
Recently Scott Lowe shared that he could identify the level of my workload based on the duration between my blog posts. I found his comment was quite insightful as things have been rather busy of late. Inside of NetApp we’re wrapping up engineering efforts for the release of something truly revolutionary. As you’d expect this has all of us working long hours. Outside of NetApp I’ve relocated from North Carolina to California and the efforts …
NetApp Expands our Virtualization & Cloud Computing Expertise
I think we all know what it means to be “On a Roll”. This is a state when an individual or organization experiences a series of sucess. NetApp has obviously been ‘On a Roll’ of late. I believe that being widely recognized as a leader of innovation and as great place to work globally, along with being the fastest growing vendor in the storage industry that I can safely make such an assessment. I also firmly …
Cisco Live Q&A – Natalie Lambert of Citrix on Desktop Virtualization Trends, Obstacles, and Opportunities
Last September Cisco and Citrix announced the first desktop virtualization Cisco Validated Design (CVD) to help customers implement standard, repeatable architectures for XenDesktop with NetApp storage. Many saw this as an indicator that desktop virtualization was (finally!) reaching a tipping point, a perception strengthened with Cisco’s November launch of its Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI) vision and our joint release of FlexPod. Cisco and NetApp now offer Citrix XenDesktop on FlexPod and joint customers worldwide are …
Cisco VXI Ups the Ante
Last week NetApp rocked the industry with our most significant product launch ever. Cisco played a key role with the release of FlexPods, a validated, pre-designed, base configuration built on Cisco UCS and Nexus and NetApp FAS storage components designed to be elastic and to scale incrementally both up and out. This week our positions are reversed. Cisco today announced the Cisco Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI), a vision that includes a comprehensive desktop virtualization reference …
